Welcome Event (Back Number)
The 19th Annual Welcome Event
We were greeted by sunshine and blue skies on Saturday, December 7th as we held our meet and greet for international students and city residents.
First on the agenda, we toured the “Seaside 3R Station” and waste treatment plant. After learning about recycling and waste treatment, we moved to Chuo Wharf for a noontime meal.
Thanks to the fine weather, we were able to sit on the deck and pass a pleasant time, chatting and eating bento lunches.
Next up, we headed over to Bayside Place where we freely toured Hakata Port Tower and the Bayside Museum, amongst other places.
From there, we boarded the cruise ship “Yunami” and enjoyed a cruise around Hakata Bay. The beautiful view of Fukuoka City from the ocean, a view which we normally don’t get to see, was very moving. Seeing a gantry crane up close was quite surprising. All in all, it made for a memorable day.
Participants kindly shared their impressions of the experience: “It was a lot of fun talking to people from many different countries”, “I’m glad I was able to become acquainted with a side of Fukuoka that I didn’t know”.
The international students and the city residents requested with one accord for future opportunities to continue socializing with one another.
