International Student Scholarships

Overview

The following scholarships are provided by companies, groups, and individuals, as well as the Rainbow International Student Fund, to support international students enrolled in universities in the Fukuoka metropolitan area. Scholarships are intended to alleviate financial burdens so that students may focus on their studies.

Types

There are two types of scholarships: “Future Development Scholarship for International Students” and “Fukuoka City International Foundation Scholarship”.

 

Stipend

For graduate students    500,000 yen or more

For undergraduate students    300,000 yen ore more

Eligibility

Students who are enrolled at a university in Fukuoka Metropolitan Area and whose total received scholarship amount, including this scholarship, does not exceed the amount of the MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship etc.

Fukuoka City International Foundation Scholarship

Desired Candidate

• Willing to work in Fukuoka in the future.
• Willing to interact with Japanese people.
• Maintain contact with Fukuoka City International Foundation after graduation.

Characteristics of the scholarship

• You can receive the scholarship for 2 years if you are a graduate student（Master）, or 4 years if you are a undergraduate student
• You can learn and experience Japanese culture and customs, and corporate culture through the interview, gathering, and internship.

In principle, minimum years required for graduation (4 years for undergraduate students*,  2 years for graduate students (master))

* 6 years for Medicine, dentistry, part of pharmacy, and veterinary

Eligibility

• Those who enroll in the following universities:
  Kyushu University, Fukuoka Women’s University, Kyushu Sangyo University, Seinan Gakuin University,Nakamura Gakuen University, Fukuoka University, Fukuoka Institute of Technology, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University (Undergraduate students or graduate students)
• Total amount of the scholarship does not exceed the amount of the MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship
• A person who holds at least N3 of JLPT or has an equivalent level of N3 Japanese ability

On July 22^th, a networking event was held for the 30 newly selected scholarship recipients.

 

The event began with opening remarks by the Executive Director of the Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation. This was followed by presentations by two former scholarship recipients who had studied abroad and are now active in various fields in Fukuoka. They shared their experiences on the themes of “Things Worth Doing During Study Abroad and Things I Wish I Had Done” and “The Appeal of Working in Fukuoka.” Drawing on their own experiences, they offered many valuable suggestions and sincere words of encouragement. The participants listened attentively and found the presentations highly inspiring.

 

In the second half of the event, participants first relaxed through an icebreaker activity. They were then divided into groups consisting of international students studying in Fukuoka and Japanese university students preparing to study abroad.

 

Based on the two themes, “The Purpose of Studying Abroad and Future Dreams” and “Challenges That May Be Faced During Study Abroad and Ways to Respond,” participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the following five topics:

 

・What kind of person can be considered a “globally minded individual”? What challenges should students actively take on during their study abroad experience in order to become such a person?

 

・How can the value of the study abroad experience be utilized in the future? ・What awareness and preparation should students develop from now on?

 

・How should students think and act when they encounter situations overseas

 

・where what they once considered “common sense” no longer applies?

 

・If they encounter difficulties or unexpected problems during their study abroad experience, how should they respond, and from whom should they seek support?

・How can they introduce the unique attractions of their own countries to others?

 

Participants actively exchanged opinions across nationalities. By encountering diverse values and different ways of thinking, they gained a deeper understanding of their goals for studying abroad and their future career paths.

 

In addition, through interacting with like-minded peers, participants came to appreciate the importance of learning from one another and growing together as scholarship recipients.

 

After the group discussions, a free networking session was held. Participants enjoyed refreshments while chatting in a relaxed atmosphere. The venue remained warm and friendly throughout the event, providing a valuable opportunity to make new friends and expand their personal networks.

 

Through the rich and meaningful discussions at this networking event, participants were able to experience diverse cultures and values while further strengthening their determination to study abroad. At the same time, they gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of learning from one another and growing together as scholarship recipients.
